What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website leaves on your device so it can remember something between one page and the next. It might remember a setting, or the fact that you’ve already made a choice about cookies. It can’t run software on your device, and there’s nothing sinister about the idea.
How you control cookies on this site
We use CookieYes to manage consent. On your first visit you’ll see a banner with three ways forward: accept, reject, or manage the categories one at a time. Nothing beyond the strictly necessary cookies fires until you’ve chosen.
You can change your mind whenever you like. Reopen the consent settings from the link in the banner, adjust the categories, and your new choice replaces the old one.
Strictly necessary cookies
These keep the site working: basic functionality, security, and load balancing through Cloudflare, which serves our pages. One of them remembers the cookie choice you just made, which is why we can’t sensibly ask permission for it. These don’t need your consent, and switching them off would break the site.
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics, deployed through the Google Site Kit plugin using Google Tag Manager. In plain terms, it tells us which pages get read, where visitors arrived from, and which country they’re in. It doesn’t tell us who you are.
We use that to decide what to write next and what to fix. As our privacy policy says, we don’t sell, rent or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. These cookies only fire after you’ve given consent.
Advertising cookies
Google AdSense serves the ads on this site, and it sets cookies to decide which ads you see and how often you see them. They only fire once you’ve consented to the advertising category. If you’d rather adjust ad personalisation across Google’s services generally, you can do that in your own Google account settings.
Affiliate cookies
Click a product link here and the retailer sets a cookie recording that you arrived from us. That’s how Amazon Associates UK, and our direct programmes with EcoFlow, Jackery, Bluetti and Anker, know to credit us if you go on to buy. It costs you nothing and it doesn’t change the price you pay. Our affiliate disclosure explains the arrangement in more detail.
Managing or deleting cookies yourself
Every major browser lets you block or clear cookies, Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge included. Look under privacy or site settings in the browser menu. Blocking everything is your right, though it does break parts of a lot of sites, logins and baskets especially.
For this site on its own, the CookieYes settings link in the banner is the quickest route.
